In conjunction with the Fall FIAA – IAAI Joint Fundamentals of Fire Investigation course, the FIAA will be hosting an ECT practicum.
The ECT Practicum is a comprehensive practical examination that consists of a series of 10 ”hands-on” practical exercises designed to test an applicant’s ability to correctly collect a variety of evidentiary items that are commonly encountered during the course of a fire investigation.
Applicants must pass all critical elements and achieve a minimum score on each of the 10 components of the practical testing.
Registration for the Evidence Collection Technician (ECT) Practicum is separate from the Fundamentals registration.
The FIAA-ECT registration involves a “2-step” process. (NOTE: This offering has limited space for ONLY 10 candidates)
Step 1. Ensure you have the required ECT prerequisites and register for testing with the IAAI:
• Ensure that you meet all certification requirements and have completed ALL required CFI trainer.net training modules.

• Next, you must now submit an ECT application to the IAAI for vetting and authorization to participate in the FIAA offering
of the ECT practicum. To do so, complete the ECT application found at: https://iaai.jotform.com/250825137134957 ,
submit your application and remit the IAAI $200 (USD) application/vetting fee.
• To ensure your seat is reserved for the testing date, you MUST NOW also complete Step 2 of the registration process.

The FIAA will be providing morning coffee and lunch on the ECT Practicum day.

Step 2. FIAA registration:
• To reserve your seat for the testing date, complete the FIAA ECT Practicum registration and pay your $100.00 (CAD)
administration fee online at www.fiaa.ca/events Registration Deadline: August 25, 2025
• Once your IAAI ECT application has been approved, FIAA will be notified that you are eligible for testing.
