2025 Fundamentals of Fire Investigation

The International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), in partnership with the Fire Investigation Association of Alberta (FIAA), is pleased to present this comprehensive training opportunity designed for both new and experienced fire investigators. This intensive course, delivered by subject matter experts in fire and explosion investigations from Canada and the United States, provides the essential prerequisite knowledge for new investigators to properly determine the origin and cause of a fire. For experienced investigators, it offers a valuable refresher on current best practices and scientific methodologies in fire scene investigation. This 40-hour training program provides the foundational knowledge for the IAAI Fire Investigation Technician certification.
The following CFITrainer.Net® modules are course Prerequisites:
• The Scientific Method for Fire and Explosion Investigation
• Understanding Fire Through the Candle Experiments
• Fire Investigator Scene Safety
REGISTRATION for this course involves a “2-step” process.
Before registering, ensure you have completed the required CFITrainer.Net® modules.
Step 1. IAAI registration:
Register for the class with the IAAI online at IAAI Fundamentals IAAI Registration: $435.00 (USD)
Registration Deadline: August 22, 2025. The maximum class size is 50 participants.
IMPORTANT: To ensure your seat is reserved for this training, you MUST NOW complete Step 2 of the registration process.
Step 2. FIAA registration:
To reserve your seat for the class, complete the FIAA Fundamentals of Fire Investigation registration and pay the administration fee online at www.fiaa.ca. FIAA Registration: $550.00 (CAD)
Registration Deadline: August 22, 2025

The FIAA will provide morning coffee, lunch and afternoon snacks each day.
Following training on Day 2, from 17:15 – 20:00, join your FIAA and IAAI hosts in the Executive Suite on the
5 th Floor for a Meet and Greet. Enjoy visiting with old friends and making some new connections.
Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
