FIRE INVESTIGATION ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA FALL SEMINAR
HOT WHEELS course September 6 – 8, 2023

This 3-day hands-on vehicle fire investigation training will be facilitated by Keith Fowler, Al Weicker, Jeff Francis, Ryan Harley and Kevin Bureau. Students will be divided into syndicates on Day 2 and will be assigned a vehicle fire scenario to investigate. Each syndicate will present their origin & cause findings to the class on Day 3. The course will include

• How to determine the area of origin (examination of the degree of destruction, fire paths, fire patterns, etc.),
• Factors to consider when analyzing the area of origin,
• Identifying combustible materials in the area of origin & their ignition points (i.e.; oil plastics, gasoline),
• Identifying ignition sources in the area of origin (i.e.; electrical, friction, exhaust heat, etc.)
• Arson – “What to look for?”, > Recalls – “How to use them”,
• Review of actual case histories,
• Live electrical demonstration – how fuses, fusible links, relays, etc. work (burning of wires, creating shorts, etc.), & Examination of sample components from actual cases.

The HOT WHEELS course is IAAI approved as a “pre-requisite” for your Motor Vehicle Fire Credential Endorsement.

Following class on Day 2, Join your FIAA Hosts back at the host hotel in the hospitality suite for drinks and snacks.
PPE is required for the Hands-on Training component. We recommend bringing your LAPTOP.
