This workshop will equip students with science-based interviewing techniques and strategies to facilitate information gathering from both cooperative and resistant interviewees. Workshop content includes:
The Core Skills of Investigative Interviewing
• Planning and preparation
• Building and maintaining rapport
• Effective listening techniques
• Effective questioning techniques
Tandem Interviewing
• Preparing for, and conducting an investigative interview with a second interviewer present
How to Elicit and Manage Information from Resistant Interviewees
• Non-coercive interviewing techniques designed for use with resistant interviewees
Recognizing and Managing Interviewee Communication Styles
• Understanding and adapting to the fundamental styles of communication
Credibility Assessment – What Science Tells Us Works
• Science-based interviewing techniques to better assess interviewee credibility
